Meet Our Instructors
Jessica Hungerford (Founder)
Jessica is the owner and founder of Blueberry Creek Stables and has been working in the equine industry for 23 years. She started teaching riding lessons at the age of 16 and has been blessed to work in many different disciplines. From drug testing racehorses to teaching horses worth millions to fly on airplanes, Jessica has a wide range of experience and is committed to the wellbeing of the horses in this industry. Jessica also has experience in teaching Hunter/Jumpers, basic Dressage, all-around horse showing, gaited horses, and rehabilitation of unwanted thoroughbreds and other uncared for horses as well. Her love for horses started before she could walk, riding in front of her grandmother in the mountains of Montana. Jessica also spent 7 years working in the foster care industry and grew a passion for helping kids in need through animals. She is passionately committed to helping her community and maintaining a family environment within her barn. Jessica is a devoted Christian and believes in loving everyone no matter their beliefs, she hopes God will use her barn to help reach out to the community and help horses and people in need.
Abby Janet
Born into the equestrian lifestyle, Abby has over 10 years of teaching experience and almost 20 years of competition experience specializing in showjumping/hunter discipline. However, no discipline is excluded, with extended experience teaching the Spanish Doma Vaquera style and also basic western. Abby also spent numerous years in a riding for the disabled facility where she learned lots of different teaching techniques to target those with delayed and difficulties learning. The main focus in class is to enjoy the experience of learning and progressing no matter what future goals are in mind.
Celeste Thornton
Cy is a lifelong horsewoman and has mastered multiple riding disciplines. She first learned to ride at the age of 7 out on the trails at Ft. Sam Houston, and later started formal riding lessons at Vance View Riding Academy where she was a working student and later an instructor. She is a former 4H and Pony Club Member. She has shown successfully in A-rated/recognized Horse Trials, Hunter/Jumper, and Dressage competitions. She rides western on her working ranch and enjoys trail riding at state parks. Cy looks forward to sharing her experience and passion for horses with students of all ages and riding abilities. Join her for a goal-oriented and engaged leaning experience!
Mary-Beth Geyer
Mary-Beth comes from a background of coaching and teaching. She loves helping people progress, learn and achieve new skills/confidence. She previously coached at Baylor University, Texas A&M Kingsville and at the high school level. Mary-Beth likes fostering relationships between her riders and horses for a positive experience. Her riding background is in western riding and barrel racing while sharing the company of any good horse. Schedule with her for any beginner western or barrel racing lesson!
Zaynah (Z)
Z specializes in teaching beginner western riding for both kids and adults! Growing up with a love for horses, Z knew she’d be a cowgirl. She takes care of her horse at her family farm. Previously trained in English riding for 3 years, she switched to western riding to pursue her cowgirl dreams. She was trained closely with coach Mary Beth on barrel racing and pole bending. It is crucial for riders to feel confident and knowledgeable of their horse, that is why Z focuses on teaching good horsemanship. She is dedicated to spending as much time as needed with a beginner rider to help them develop a trusting bond with the horses. She emphasizes teaching riders to be critical thinkers, caring, and passionate. Once the rider is ready, she can introduce the basics of barrel racing, preparing the rider for advanced training. Kirsty
Kirsty understands the unique challenges of starting an entirely new sport as an adult as she didn’t start her riding career until later in her teenage years, having had her first lesson aged eighteen when she started university. She quickly fell in love with the sport and the rest, as they say, is history! She has spent the last ten years working as a summer camp director and has served as a coach for Riding for the Disabled UK, Saddle Club and Girl Scouts. She prides herself in teaching with empathy and supporting her students, both children and adults, to become well-rounded horsemen, confident in all aspects of ground work and riding.
